May is skin cancer awareness month, and today is known as #MelanomaMonday.  Being a Floridian, I can’t escape the sun, and honestly – I don’t want to!  I love the sun and that salty gulf coast air.  But I want to be safe about it.  I also wouldn’t mind having fewer wrinkles and skin damage in general!  I love our home, and living outdoors with my boys.  Whether it’s on the boat, at the beach, at a tee ball game, or my parents pool.  We slather it on and slather it on some more.

Did you know?
• One in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime.
• 90% of skin aging is due to daily sun exposure.
• Five or more sunburns can lead to an 80 percent greater risk of developing melanoma.
• Melanoma is the deadliest cancer for young women ages 29 to 34.

Yikes!  So to go a step beyond my sunscreen routine, I love wearing Cabana Life, which has the cutest UPF clothing and swimsuits.  I wore this style rashguard before, during, and after my pregnancy with wes.  If I’m going to be at the beach or pool for an extended period of time, I always wear a rash guard, or throw on one of my cabana life tunics.  I love knowing that I’m protected with their UPF clothing, and I don’t have to worry about making sure my back is fully covered.  It’s kinda hard to get sunscreen on your back when your solo at the beach with your kids!

Since I am wearing sunscreen year round, I get questions about sunscreen quite a bit.  I have been a Supergoop fan for.ever.  Well, at least for the last five years since I discovered it.   For my sister’s bachelorette in Miami, I made sure all the girls had sunscreen in their goodie bags.  When we spent all day on the boat, I was spritzing this rosemary refresh setting mist on myself and anybody that would let me.  My mom was showing (:  If you want to learn more about chemical vs mineral sunscreen, how to avoid skin cancer, and find out which sunscreen is best for you – the sun 101 on Supergoop.  wear this unseen sunscreen every single day.  I always hated putting sunscreen on my face due to the feel of it – well this feels amazing.  Since I don’t wear make up most days, this gives me a little dewy-ness.   It also helps my make up go on well if I’m putting that on.  I put on this supergoop body butter everywhere else.  It’s so hydrating!  I love their lipgloss too that has SPF in it.

For the boys, I usually use the mousse and the stick on their faces.  We also try to always have a UPF rash guard on them.  Wes fights this sometimes, and Tuck won’t not wear one.  We always bring an umbrella to the beach, and try to stay under a cabana if we are by the pool and not in it.  I love the little baseball hats from Honey Bee Tees (you can get 10% off with code TUCKER10 if you are a first time customer).

Other ways I protect myself is through sunglasses – I have super sensitive eyes, and am especially sensitive to bright lights (that is a migraine trigger for me) so I am never without sunglasses.  I love wearing a baseball cap, or a straw hat for extra protection too.

For this month, Cabana Life is letting you give your friends $20 of Cabana Life credit – and you can take $20 off your order with code ISPREADSUNSHINE !  Cheers to keeping yourself and your family safe this summer!!

Am I missing something?  Is there something I should definitely be doing to keep myself and my kids safe?  I’d love to hear other ways how you keep yourself and your fam safe in the sun.
