I’ve got a treat for you today. The oh so lovely Sophie of The Littlest Things
is here guest posting. When I first started blogging, i looked at hers and thought i wanted mine to be just.like.hers. Every time I’m checking out The LIttlest Things, I leave with a breath of fresh air in my lungs and a head filled with inspiration.
I know you will all be totally smitten by this gorgeous Aussie living abroad in England. She’s one of the rare beauties with just as much beauty on the inside that she’s got on the outside. So, yes she’s perfect. Oh and DO NOT get me started on her style. Seriously, the best. the very best on the web. Enjoy!
Hi guys, I am Sophie from The Littlest Things. When Sarah asked me to guest post I became so excited/nervous because this is my first guest post ever. She told me to write about style/travel so I have compiled together a few of the things which make life so wonderful; travel, food, fashion, love and life itself.
I have been bloggy friend with Sarah for agess now, and with every blog post she does I love and admire her even more. She is gorgeous, inside and out. There is no doubt about it. So I am so happy to be here on Fairy Tales are True today.
I think my love for travelling started with big trips with my brother and parents. We did one to Europe and one to America driving all around on big road trips. It was amazing! And now, ever since I left school in 2007 my life has been a constant travelling adventure and I owe all my travelling-ness to falling in love with an Englishman. This means that I have been lucky enough to be able to travel a lot around Europe including places like Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Florence, Rome, Venice, Milan, Santorini etc etc. Coming from Australia where we have so much space and are so far away from any other countries, I find Europe mind-boggling at how many countries it can fit into such a small area. And the fact that you could travel through multiple countries and experience so many different cultures in one day just by hopping on a train.
I say travel as much as you can, exactly like Sarah (I don’t know anyone who has traveled more than Sarah; check out how much travelling she has done from her gorgeous photos). Life is about experiencing new things and cultures, and travelling is the way to do it.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
“One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating.” – Luciano Pavarotti and William Wright, Pavarotti
Another great thing about travelling? the food! All the different types and styles. When I travel, I always try to have the most signature dish of the culture. It always seems to make the locals happier to be serving an outsider because they know you are making an effort to try new things and try their favourite foods.
Ever since starting blogging, I have been opened up to so many different recipes and new foods to try because lets be honest there are so many amazing food blogs which take you through every single step (which is exactly what I need when I cook or bake haha). I cannot wait to make Sarah’s Kale pizza. It looks so so yummy.
Fashion – another thing in which blogging opens up a whole a whole can of worms. As you guys have already seen, I am sure. Fashion is everywhere in the blogosphere and it’s impossible to not be inspired especially when we read stylish blogs like Sarah’s (how amazing are all her outfits in this collage I made – I chucked a few of mine in there too). Before starting my blog, I loved fashion but I wasn’t obsessed with it like I am these days. However, finding your own “personal style” is a pretty difficult task I have found. With so many shows throughout fashion week, so many trends come from the runway which can make it pretty mind-boggling. So in the last year I have found these few tips and trick help me when shopping:
1) Know what suits you and your figure and know that every trend won’t suit you. I have found that I just really don’t suit really skinny jeans, light denim jeans or leather pants as they just really don’t flatter my legs at all and in the past whenever I have worn them, I have always felt really self conscious, so now I steer clear and know that other trends suit me 100x better.
2) Choose style over trends. I would prefer to buy a timeless piece which I know will always stay in fashion and I will always love rather than something that I hate come a month later when everyone else has the same thing. I have trouble sticking to this one because it is so easy to just spend a cheeky $50 on another t-shirt which I only “kind-of” like but going to get it anyway because its “on-trend”, but I when I do stick to this one, I feel much better because my closet is way more organised and I know exactly what I have and what I need (or want to be honest haha).
3) Most importantly…have fun with fashion. I think this is the best advice because fashion is all about another form of art and expression and everyone has a different way of doing that. So throw out the mythical fashion rule book, keep and open mind and have fun, it’s what life is all about 🙂
Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” – Coco Chanel
“The most wonderful of all things in life is the discovery of another human being with whom one’s relationship has a growing depth, beauty and joy as the years increase. This inner progressiveness of love between two human beings is a most marvelous thing; it cannot be found by looking for it or by passionately wishing for it. It is a sort of divine accident, and the most wonderful of all things in life.” – Sir Hugh Walpol
Love! Love is the thing which makes the world go round. And a love like Sarah and JB’s is exactly the sort of love that millions are searching for. I know people say that “perfection” doesn’t exist but when I we see Sarah and JB together, how can we say it doesn’t? They are beautiful in every sense of the word. I know that fairy tales are definitely true when I see you two together.
Sometimes I just get so overwhelmed that we all are here and lucky enough to be alive. The fact that we have relationships, that we live in a house, that we go to sleep every night and wake up to a brand new day every morning, that we get a weekend after every five days, that we get to share beautiful memories with the people around us, that we have sunny days, rainy days, snowy days, that we eat and drink to keep ourselves going, and that we call this life.
I just pinch myself sometimes. Especially recently after everything that is happening with Japan. The fact that life is fragile and its something to look after and appreciate what you have every day, because I doubt anyone in Japan knew that what happened was coming which means none of us know what is coming. So I say live for the moment and remember how lucky we all are. And here is a little corny quote which sums up life quite nicely (yes I love my quotes).
“As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn’t supposed to ever let us down, probably will. You’ll have your heart broken and you’ll break others’ hearts. You’ll fight with your best friend or maybe even fall in love with them, and you’ll cry because time is flying by. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, forgive freely, and love like you’ve never been hurt. Life comes with no guarantees, no time outs, no second chances. you just have to live life to the fullest, tell someone what they mean to you and tell someone off, speak out, dance in the pouring rain, hold someone’s hand, comfort a friend, fall asleep watching the sun come up, stay up late, be a flirt, and smile until your face hurts. Don’t be afraid to take chances or fall in love and most of all, live in the moment because every second you spend angry or upset is a second of happiness you can never get back.” – Unknown
As the beautiful Sarah says herself; Life is beautiful, and if you look for it…there are fairy tales everywhere.
