Let’s take a trip Tuesday Y’all- Dallas, TX

So happy Lesley of six twelve place is here to tell us all about Dallas!    The city will always hold a special place in my heart as that is where JB proposed.  Annnnd a lot of the places we frequented during that time are listed below!
Enjoy your fun trip to Dallas Everyone!!  Thanks Lesley!

Name: Lesley R.
Location: Dallas, Texas

How long have you lived there?
7 years
If you moved from somewhere else, where did you move from? Why?
I grew up in a suburb outside of Dallas so I have always been in the Dallas area except for the 4 amazing years I spent in a a small town about 40 minutes south of Austin for undergrad.  Once I graduated college, I moved to Dallas for my first grown up job as a teacher!
How is the weather?
Texas weather can be unpredictable (it was 70 last week, but it snowed yesterday!).  Two things are consistent in Dallas weather though- the humidity and the fiercely hot summers.  Our winters are nothing compared to the midwest or northeast, but it definitely gets cold and the humidity makes the cold sting all the way to the bone.  The absolute best time to visit Dallas would be the fall and if we’re getting really specific, I would suggest mid-September to mid-October.

Tell us what a typical weekend is like for you there?    Gym, shopping, eating, brunching, relaxing, DVR and and spending time with family and friends.  My life isn’t very exciting but I’ll suggest lots of fun and exciting things for Dallas visitors below
Where do you like to eat in your town?

Everywhere!  I am being completely sincere when I say food is one of my greatest pleasures in life and Dallas has SO many great places for me to indulge in this pleasure.  Some of my Dallas favorites include:
1. The Porch
2. Victor Tangos
3. Fireside Pies
4. Dean Fearings
5. Mi Cocina (several locations and you absolutely MUST order a Mambo Taxi)
6. Neighborhood Services
7. Nick and Sams Grill (great for brunch, lunch or dinner)
8. Patrizios
9. Little Katana (sushi)
10. Taverna (great for brunch and 1/2 priced wine on Wednesday)

Where do you like to shop?
Northpark Mall is usually my first stop.  Northpark has all your staples like Nordstroms, Neiman Marcus, Anthropologie, Forever 21, H&M (coming soon!), Urban Outfitters, Aldo, Banana Republic, J. Crew, Lululemon, BCBG and some luxury designers as well.
The Dallas Galleria is another great mall.  The Galleria has many of the same stores as Northpark, but they also have an indoor ice skating rink and Zara.  I prefer Northpark over The Dallas Galleria
If your’re feeling fancy, Highland Park Village has very high-end designers like Chanel, Hermes, Christian Louboutin, Tory Burch, DVF, Escada, Harry Winston, Jimmy Choo and many others!  Plus there is also a small movie theatre and some of my favorite restaurants like Patrizios and Mi Cocina!
Some of my favorite boutiques in Dallas include Flirt, Mine and Elements.  If you are looking to shop for the home- head to Snider Plaza or Knox-Henderson. Many of these clothes and home boutiques can be a little on the pricey side but have the cutest stuff!  Just giving a friendly warning- be prepared to spend 🙂

Suggest some must see places for an out of town visitor.
Oh goodness, Dallas has so much to offer out-of-towners!
The JFK MuseumDallas AquariumDallas Arboretum and Nasher Sculpture Center are great attractions that are unique to Dallas and often host fun events depending on the time of year.
Dallas sports fans are proud!  Even if our teams are struggling (ahem, Cowboys!)…  Dallas Mavericks games are a ton of fun and a place to see and be seen.  Make sure to go to Old #7 after the game for a drink.  Of course, the new Cowboys Stadium is incredible and if you come in the fall you should definitely try to score tickets to a game.

Definitely eat out and indulge while you are in town- I beg of you!  I listed 10 of my favorites above, but seriously there are SO many good restaurants.  Email me (sixtwelveplace {at} and I would be happy to recommend 100 more!
Hotel ZaZa, The Crescent and The Ritz are my three favorite hotels and they all three have great spas if you are in the mood for a little pampering (even if you’re not staying there).
If you are looking to go out on the town some great bars include: Barcadia, Capital Pub, The Loon, J. Blacks, Bar Celine, Adairs, Teddy’s and Sfuzzi.  BUT Dallas “hot spots” are constantly changing.  One day you’re hot, the next you’re not.

Tell us why you love your town:
Because it will always be home…even when it isn’t.  I have spent the better part of my life in the Dallas area, even if the day comes that I do not reside in Dallas it will still be the place I come to that feels like home.

Anything else we should know about where you live?
Dallas is where cosmopolitan luxury meets southern hospitality.  We love to have visitors so book your room and spa appointment at the Hotel Crescent and come have an indulgent weekend with your loved ones.  Y’all won’t regret it, cross my heart 🙂
