a long weekend in Puerto Rico

What a fun weekend we had wandering around Old San Juan.  It was so fun sharing in all the joy of our two friends marrying!  It’s only a three hour flight, and with no customs to go through, it’s an easy trip to make.  JB and I had been there twice before, but just for a hot second.  On our way back from our honeymoon our flight was canceled, so the airline put us up for a night and we didn’t fly out the next day until 7.  Another time we had an 8 hour layover, and so we spent much of that time exploring outside of the airport.  But this was our first time spending real time here. old san juan

coco I couldn’t stop drinking coco’s.  He had a huge knife and would chop the top off, and hand it over with a straw.  No surprise that it was way better than any coconut water I’ve bought in stores.

Luca By Luca in Puerto Rico

I stumbled upon Luca, and fell in love.  The owner makes all of the jewelry.  I bought a thin braided ring.  All of her jewelry is beautiful!

JB got his first panama hat at Ole Curiosidades.  You can have it fitted, and pick your ribbon.  There’s a lot of different quality panama hats, and they were so helpful.

we had lunch at deaverdura.  They didn’t speak english, which JB and I always thinks is a good sign for authentic food.  JB thankfully is fluent!  They just had us pick our meat, and then everyone gets the same set up of tostones, rice, beans, salad.  It was delicious!

We stayed at El Convento.  Which was a beautiful hotel with incredible service, which was once a convent.

I had to have at least one mojito.  This one was legit!  From The Mezzanine at St Germain

Somewhere we discovered on our layover in San Juan last time was Caficultura.  I knew we had to go back!

We had dinner the first night at El Jibarito (which means the little hillbilly).  Delicious mofongo!

We also had some appetizers at the top of the St. Germain building.  Delicious empanadas!

The wedding was on a friday evening, so on Saturday we rested at The Vanderbilt.  A beautiful hotel on the beach, where our hotel has reciprocal.  We both had treatments at the spa, and relaxed until around 5pm.  It was perfect!  With a treatment you can use the facilities for free, or pay $60 for a day pass.

The wedding was at Castillo de Cristobal and reception at El Convento.  It was SO beyond gorgeous.   The bride and groom are two of the sweetest, most beautiful people.  We are so happy for them!  I definitely shed a few tears.
My dress is from RTR unlimited subscription — The Elizabeth and James Tisha Gown.   The dress got lots of compliments.  Though it didn’t have a slit, so it was hard to walk in.

I wore this h&m jumpsuit saturday night for dinner.  After eating all weekend it was hard to zip up. haha

We went to dinner at Jose Enrique.  Which two people on my IG suggested we visit.  It was AMAZING!!  One of the best meals of my life.  We went with two other couples and we all split everything.  We ate like kings and our bill was $100 per couple.  The menu changes every day and you order off of a white board.  Could not recommend this place more!

Leighton Meester and Adam Brody were one table down, and I’m really proud I didn’t go up to their table like a big nerd.  They were adorable and canoodling the whole time.

The area around Jose Enrique is a lot of fun.  Definitely very few tourists!  There’s live music, dancing in the street, bars, and street food.  I had an empanada there… it was my dessert!  (:

What a beautiful place. San Juan, we will be back!!
