Wesley’s Big Boy Room

gingham big boy room

We realized Wes needed a big boy room as soon as he could literally hop out of there with no problem whatsoever.  The first time I saw him do it on the monitor it was actually kind of amazing.  He never even hurt himself!  I did sleep sacks then, but that only worked until right around two.  So while we finished this, and switched beds up here, we put the boys down together.  Honestly most of the time we still put them down together.  While we were away for Irma they were in bed with me, and when we got back and I put them down, Tuck came into our room around 2am saying “BUT WHO IS GOING TO SNUGGLE US?!”  lol.  I’m a weirdo and honestly I never thought I wouldn’t have my kids in bed with us at some point.  Wes tends to sleep all of the way through but Tuck is usually up and climbing in for a snuggle around 2-3.  Thankfully JB really loves that time too.  I feel like we get the best of both worlds because we put them down at night, but we still get to wake up to their little cherub faces a lot of the time.  Anyway, I digress … Now that Wesley’s big boy room is finished we usually let them pick which room they want to be read to and tucked in.  And sometimes we put them down separately if one needs to go down sooner.  But generally, lights out by 7:30 after books and prayers in bed.    These are some of my favorite moments of the day.

Sooooo back to Wesley’s big boy room!   Here it is – in all his gingham, fishy, monogram, pennant, sailboat glory (:

In this post I wrote about trying to find the perfect gingham headboard, for a good price too.  I asked Roxy at Society Social (which is where I saw this idea!), but they only do queens.  Thankfully I found Gray Whale Home, who made the process super easy.  She gave me several ginghams to choose from – so if you want a different color, or size I’m sure Ashley can help you out with it.  I ordered one of her dorm room headboards, but then she reached out to me about doing a more substantial version.  The dorm room ones are still great (and at $100 no less!)  but due to dorm room restrictions they can’t use nails, etc.  The one she created for Wesley’s room is so sturdy, with beautiful details.  I put it together in under five minutes too, which is saying something for ease.  I absolutely adore the bed, and couldn’t recommend them enough.

{project 62 by target acrylic lamp // pillowfort dog night light // sailboat is from our first nursery }

this little armoire we found at a thrift store a few months before wesley was born.  I changed out the handles to a brass pull from target to update it a bit.  The sailboat is actually a kite by haptic lab.

{oversized zinc letter from anthropologie // sailboat blackout curtains c/o carousel designs.  You can customize the drapes completely – and all sorts of other items.  It was so easy!  You can also order swatches completely free.  It really helped me narrow down exactly which direction I wanted to go for the whole room. Plus their fabric is so soft, and it washes very well.  Thank you Carousel Designs!  }

moved this Dwelling Space sign out of tucks room, because it fits better right here.

 {this is an old print “a child’s prayer” which is a set by  Charlot Byj- you can usually find them on Etsy. the little sailboat book holder is from tucks nursery and I bought it at marshalls five years ago}

The prints over the bed:  my girlfriend Shalyn Nelson painted the quote which is from a favorite song  // The trout print is by my bf Shannon Kirsten, and it’s always been a fave! // the anchor Jessica Lorren got at the anna maria yard sale one year while shooting a wedding down here, and then she gave it to me a few years later.  I love this shade of blue/green // the little deacons pennant is so cute and a little nod to my husbands alma mater.  WFU sent them to both kids right after they were born + a special note that is in their baby books. // the wall decal is from shanna murray which I had up for his nursery.  I started to peel it off the other day and just couldn’t do the whole thing.  so for now it stays (:  }

{paint colors are all by benjamin moore — room is linen white (which would be better if the room was facing a different direction like it was in our old home when we used this color) // nightstand is newburyport blue // armoire is revere pewter}

I’m sure there are things I’ll  add/take away in the coming months from this room, but I so love his big boy room.

  Our little big guy no longer says his name is “me” when I ask him what his name is.  “I’m Wesh Tucker!”  So it was officially big boy room time (:
