Casa Cielo Grande in Alajuela

Last year I didn’t take advantage of long weekends off from school.  I never planned much, which was fine, but this year I vowed to take advantage of any extra day or two we had off.  So I started planning in advance!  The school had President’s Day and the following day (for college touring) off.  So when Soo asked me if I’d like to come review Casa Cielo Grande, I figured this long weekend would be the time to do it!  Thank you Casa Cielo Grande for hosting us and my in laws!   First, just take a look at these views from the deck at Casa Cielo Grande?  I mean, does it get more heavenly than that?  Nope!  I really felt like I was in the clouds.

The casa is located in Alajuela, and is about 20 minutes to the airport, and perfectly situated for exploring OR relaxing.

The boys had a ball in the pool, and we loved watching them – and the view!

The grounds are gorgeous.  You are surrounded with what feels like a million different kinds of flowers, and fruits.  The man that built Casa Cielo Grande had cancer and was told he wouldn’t live very long… he moved here, and lived 40 more years!  A testament to the clean way of living in Costa Rica and the organic fruits and veggies they eat every day.

It’s gated in, and the boys roamed the property lost in their imagination every day.  Wes popped into the owners once and declared “I’m staying here for five months!”.  The boys really had an amazing time, and it was nice to let them explore freely.  I felt completely safe in Alajuela – this area of Costa Rica is such a peaceful place.

Hydrangeas grow everywhere in Alajuela.  I couldn’t believe it.  They bloom year round, and grow just like our weeds do along the highways.  One of the most surprising things about Alajuela was the temperature.  It was perfect!  60’s and cool at night, sunny and 80 during the day, with NO humidity.  I had expected it to be hot and humid like it gets here.

The indoor spaces are lovely and well appointed.  The casa we stayed in could sleep 10.  The whole property could sleep over 30 – so it would be perfect for a family reunion or a holiday where everyone goes on vacation.  My cousins and I would have had a blast here!  It also has great spaces for a small wedding.  And how fun would it be to have your nearest and dearests all in one spot for the wedding weekend?!

The staff was incredible.  Such sweet people!  One of them even cooked us a traditional Costa Rican dinner one night that was delicious!  They also arranged for someone to come to the casa and give massages.  It was just $40/hour!

We loved every minute of our time at Casa Cielo Grande!  Thank you for having us!!  If you are looking for more information, I did a q&a on instagram under the highlight “costa rica”.

I will share our itinerary next post(:
