Beauty Routine Series: Part Two – Hair

byron lars dressFirst of all, I can’t  stress enough how important it is to find someone who wants your hair to be its healthiest and takes the time to figure out your hair.  I think having heather jo do my hair for over six years has helped my hair SO much.  A lot of times I don’t even check to see if I like it after because I always love what she does.  If you are local (or on vacation on Anna Maria Island!) go to Acqua Aveda on the beach!  Heather Jo is my stylist there- and also one of the sweetest people in the world.

Secondly, what do I know about hair?  Not much.  I am pretty low key about styling, and while I could make the time to do it more, I don’t make it a priority.  On a random day, I will likely have my hair in a ponytail.

For reference, I have thin/fine hair, so I am always in need of volume.  I have my hair highlighted every 6 weeks.  We live in a humid place, so as soon as I walk outside my hair falls quite a bit.

Wash:

I use Acure Organics Volume Shampoo and Conditioner most days.  About once a week, I need a more clarifying shampoo, and I use Kristin Ess The One Shampoo and Conditioner.  Both sets are $20 or under.  Acure is much more healthy for you.  But Kristin Ess gets some amazing results for me.

I bought the tangle teezer a few years ago because my boy had a sensitive head.  Wellllll, I use it just as much as him now.  Fine hair tangles easily, and this is perfect for it.

Style:

I air dry about 5 out of 7 days.  But when I use a blowdryer I use the Conair 3Q.

Every day in college I used hot rollers.  I recently have gone back to them on occasion.  I have the Conair Infiniti Pro rollers and only use the large rollers +1 inch.  I could totally get away with using the Conair Instant Heat Travel rollers.  Since I have fine hair, the travel size would work well because I can get all of my hair up in five rollers.  If you have thicker/more hair, you’ll probably want something with more than 5 rollers.  I love that I don’t have to do much.  I just throw my hair up in them while I am getting ready or doing chores around the house.  Let it out in about 20 minutes.  Done!

Last year I asked Heather Jo teach me how to use a wand.  So I ran out and bought the first one I saw at Walgreens — an Infiniti Pro by Conair.  I thought it would be way too hard for me, but it’s actually fairly easy.  One of the pointers that’s always stuck was to point the wand down when you are holding it.

Products for extending my styling:

I probably only use product to set my hair twice a month.  When I do it’s triple sec from drybar.  It gives a great hold and tousled look.

I love klorane dry shampoo and have used it for a couple years now.  I use this if I did my hair in the morning, and am doing something that afternoon/evening.

Here’s a silly youtube I made – I definitely cringe a bit sharing this, and not sure how helpful it is but here you go!

Any questions? suggestions on products?  I would love to hear from you!!
