can someone please steal my cell phone?

Happy to be contributing to Katie Den Ouden’s SDS blog tour today.  SDS stands for skinny dipping society – which is all about what makes you feel free, and fully alive.  and yes!  I want that. always.

Soooo… cell phones.  are they not the worst?  okay, so as usual i’m being a bit dramatic.  particularly because i have one; and also every social media app out there. shameful.
but!  cell phones are indeed worst.  i cringe when i see no one connecting but everyone with their heads bowed down into their phones.  and more often than i’d like to admit, i’m right there with them.
last week Lynzy posted about the book Hands Free Mama.  And needing reading material for my NYC trip, I bought it!  And on my way home yesterday, I devoured it.  everyone, mama or not, needs to.
I can’t stand the thought of tuck thinking my phone or ipad is so important to me.  gross.  i want to live as much as possible hands free.  Because the moments when I am truly alive?  totally free?  they don’t involve cell phones.  they involve being connected – to God, to the person next to me, to the world around me.
i’m not saying i’m throwing my phone out the window, moving to the woods any time soon. but i am vowing to be more mindful.  i want to hold JB’s and Tucks hand, not my cell phone.  to be less connected to avatars on instagram and more connected to the people right in front of me.
because as francis bacon said …
“Begin doing what you want to do now.  We are not living in eternity.  We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand and melting like a snowflake”.
and this baby of mine proves that every day, with each new stage.  i don’t want to live distracted, i want to focus on what really matters.  for it’s the relationships in my life that are my true treasures – and where my focus needs to be.  and really i just want to laugh more with the people next to me and not about buzzfeed.
