Nothing you really like is ever out of style.

There's a few things that have been part of my wardrobe for ages and there's no end in sight.  To name a couple of these I'll include touches of lace, stripes, leopard, maxi's, polka dots, riding boots, anything that'll define a waist, tortoise, and chic pencil thin black pants.  In doses, all of these things are so good.  I'll totally be that old lady rocking some polka dots one day.  I love to see how these items get remixed and revamped through the years.  I hear something like "lace is big for the fall", and I'm usually all "when pray tell did it ever go out?!".   I've always been super particular about what I wear, and it's a rare day when I ever ask someone for their opinion.  I think if I've gotta ask "do you like this?" ... I'm obviously not sure if I really do.  So it's a moot point and onto something else.  I've always stuck to my classics and mixed trends in here and there.  and I've loved this quote since I read it in a box from Furbish.  It's thought of often when I'm not sure about sticking to my guns on something for work too.  Long story short, here's my picks for fall.  and may you always be true to your taste (:  !

{maxi dress, chunky knit dress, polka dot sweater, chunky knit sweater, cords, high heels, polka dot flats, peplum, and eye glasses}

What are a few items you just can't stop buying no matter what magazines tell you?

  1. Oh my gosh, Sarah, I am the EXACT same way! I just did a post last week about how I could never be a fashion blogger because I wear things that are practical and classic--not trendy. I am so far behind on trends...it's sad! Anywho, loved this post..it spoke straight to my heart! And if you're ever in the mood for chicken corn soup...you know who to call :) XO

  2. I love all of these! As in I am adding them to my cart soon but the only question I have regarding Asos is the sizes. Do you usually do what the model wears? She is about our size right? I never know so I am always so hesitant. Help! :)xoxo

  3. I love your taste. You have such a classic style that I really don't think COULD ever go out of fashion. I love this quote, simply because I'm a big believer that clothes should reflect how you feel and what you like and that you should be true to yourself at all times.

  4. @chels - I usually wear one size up in ASOS. those euro sizes really throw me for a bit of a loop.

  5. I definitely favour more classic pieces so I really related this post! No matter what's "in" or "out", I always try to buy pieces that I love.

  6. i love the polka dot sweater and the peplum top both so cute.

i always buy baggy jumpers i just love the way they fall and they can dress something smart down in such a cool way. and i love a bit of print, i can't resist it as well as feminine things.

i suppose i dress quite classically generally and then add a little twist.

  7. I don't asks for opinions either for the same reason. If I'm not comfortable in my outfit from the beginning it's not going to get better through out the day/night.

  9. Instead of things I can't stop buying, I tend to ignore some trends ... Things like chambray, colored denim, wedges, they just never worked on me! So no matter what the mags say, I stick to my own guns too. :) I like your choices! Looks like it is going to eb fashionably comfortable for you this fall!

  10. I am so with you on the "when did it ever go out of style?" thing! Sure, looking nice and not weird is always a plus....But, if I love something I am not going to quit wearing it just be cause no one else does anymore.

I have been doing my hair basically the same for years and I love. it. No two tone dyes, no beachy waves, no crazy THICK or fringe bangs. Just the right amount of layers, a blowdryer, and a fat curling iron. In the way of clothes I love patterned skirts (mostly a-line, some short, some long) with a plain yet dressy top. Lots of mix and matching goes on. And of course a comfy pair of jeans and sneakers isn't a bad thing either.

  11. I fell a little silly now, I ask for opinions all the time, though its usually to see if I look ridiculous and not because I don't love my things. I've always been very picky about what I'll buy, wear. I tend to favor classics and stay away from trends if they don't work for me. Overall, I think it's important to be yourself, not to wear something just because everyone else is.

  14. I love wearing white, even after labor day! I don't really stick to fashion rules, I actually like not being so on trend all time. Oh my polka dots though, that's all I ever buy, every time it gets me, I am a sucker. The Gap came out with the cutest polka dot sweaters today, you must go see!

  15. I love, love, love that quote. Because, clearly, it's talking about style, but it applies to so much--to life. And it's an issue I've really been chewing on these days. I want to be totally true to myself, and style is the perfect outward expression of that.

AND. I love, love, love your finds. Especially that polka dot sweater.

  23. Love this post Sarah! My "classics" are always different than those "classics lists". I have to agree with you on leopard (when does that EVER go away?), lace, stripes, polka dots, riding boots, and slim black pants! My other classics are always feminine touches, cream and grey sweaters, skinny jeans, and rounded/oval black flats.

  24. I so agree with this! I have always believed that if people dress in what they are naturally drawn to, it is often also the most flattering look on them. (perhaps with the exception of the What Not to Wear show? but still...)
