10 little preggas things

oh man, it feels good to have the cat, errr kitten, outta the bag!
keeping that from y'all was rough.  everyday for the past two months I've felt pretty awful, hence the lack of posts...
10 little preggas things:

1.  a lot of people have asked - have you been sick?
ummmm yes.  it's been manageable but i have not felt near like myself.
i've tossed my cookies in some pretty interesting places.  sorry neighbors bushes.

2.    to me, loosing your cookies is always an end of the world affair.  i cry buckets. i literally think i am the most pitiful person alive.  i want everyone to acknowledge what i've been through.  I want a medal of honor. i mourn the loss of nutrients i worked so hard to eat!
 I eventually get over it...

3.  one thing that always made me hesitant about becoming a mom, though i always knew I would... was the judgment that comes along with it.  This sort of - do it this way, and if you don't... then .... that always shocked me when i'd hear that coming from people.
people have been having bebes for quite a few years now, and before books and hoopla they sort of just went off instincts.
though i'm still reading a lot, i think there's a lot to be said for maternal instinct.

4.   we head up to highlands, NC for a wedding this week. which i'm so excted about!
i am renting the runway for the first time.  A little nervous!  they have bump friendly dresses, though my bump is not so big just yet to require that section.  i've got a little bump envy going on over here.

5.  speaking of which... there's a lot of really bad maternity clothes out there.  amen?  asos and maxi dresses are going to be my jam.  if you know of others, help a girl out.

6.  telling people you are pregnant is maybe better than the day you let it out that you're engaged.
the well wishes, the tears spilled, the genuine smiles, and the "you're gonna be great parents" has been overwhelmingly amazing.  heart in overdrive.

7.  i'm not a big fan of full on belly shots.  and here i go, with a full on belly in yo face picture.  go figure.

8.  i'd like to thank seagram's sparkling seltzer water, my husband, mint chocolate chip ice cream, coca cola for when it gets really bad, baked potatoes, and of course my mom for getting me through these past few months.  you are the best.

9.  i went to a bachelorette party and had only spilled the beans to ash.  i totally faked everyone out... maybe?  y'all must have thought i was the most lame girl alive.  i had told the waiter at the mexican joint we went to - only non-alcoholic drinks, but to be sneaky about it, i didn't want anyone else to know!  does anyone remember when they brought me an O'Doul's?
i meant faux margaritas!!  i passed it of like... "did someone else order this??"

10.  second trimester, hello!  please be sweet to me.

  4. so excited for you and jb:) you're going to be such amazing parents and i can't wait to read (and bookmark) any wisdom you have during this experience. such a happy happy time. TOTALLY makes up for not getting to see you last month! I had an inkling...but kept my mouth shut :)

  5. love these updates! my sister is due in september and she was pretty horrified at all the maternity options as well. her suggestion: invest in one great pair of maternity jeans (she loves her J Brand pair) that you'll wear throughout and then during other pregnancies. Also invest in a great white button-down (she found hers here in Nola at Baby Bump...not sure of the brand.) Those two pieces can mix with just about anything! She's also been finding some great stuff at Old Navy, and has been swearing by comfy, stretchy maxi dresses!

  6. That's hilarious about the O'Doul's. If anything, that would be a funny way to ANNOUNCE you're pregnant, not keep it a secret!

  7. I can only imagine how hard it's been not to let the "kitten" out of the bag! Lol! I'm so very thrilled for you! You're such a beautiful woman with a beautiful spirit and I'm sure you'll be an excellent mother Sarah!

  9. You are too cute. I am so sorry to hear about the loss earlier on - working in the hospital I do see it happen too frequently and it must have been awful. On a happier note, I could not be more excited about this- can't wait to see your cute little bump at my wedding!

As for maternity clothes- I have heard that this line from target is amazing (and affordable)!

  10. Oh yes, I remember all these things. My signature drink was cranberry juice with a lime. :-)

Hopefully the second trimester will be kind to you, and may you surround yourself with non-judgmental people. The "mom judgment" is difficult to ignore entirely, but you are so right - our instincts are almost always right. Trust them and do what's right for you and your family, and let others decide what is right for them.

  12. I don't think anyone is particularly find of tossing their cookies but it is comforting to know that I'm not the only one who acts like its the end of the world on such occasions.

Congratulations! You two will be such wonderful parents!

  13. Hey! I COMPLETELY agree with you about the lack of cute Pregnancy clothing options. Girl, they are sooo BAD. So far, I've managed to like a few things from the Gap maternity line (which is only sold online and in the Gap kids stores)and a very very few top options at destination maternity. Wierd because all I heard when I got pergnanty was "oh youve got to go to Destination Maternity theyve got the cutest stuff!" WRONG> sorry, its true! I must say I did get a pair of AMAZING citizens of humanity pregnancy jeans there and I LOve them though! Anyways I couldnt agree with you more, help a sista out!

  25. So so cute! I'd love to know more about passing off the fake drinks! That one will be a tough one someday! I think Preggers in maxi dresses is definitely one of the best looks, especially since it's summer! :)

  26. Congratulations! I totally relate to most of these things-- and (not being a big drinker) I miss my mixed drinks more than I thought I would!

  27. number 2 totally had me laughing because that's exactly what I feel like when I throw up. too funny!

  28. Girl, we had NO IDEA at the bachelorette party! HAHAHA but the O'Douls was hillarious now that I know it really was for one of us!!!I honestly didn't even think twice about it, or you not staying out late, just figured you weren't a big drinker/late night partier. Had no idea you were tired from, ya know, growing a human and all. And not just any regular human, one that will likely make all of our eyes hurt from it's radiating gorgeousness. Nbd.
I told BKM I hope its twins ;)

  29. So excited for you! You are going to love every moment of it and being a mom is simply the best. Enjoy this amazing journey.

  30. 2nd trimester is the best! i found a lot of maternity clothes at (maternity) gap and old navy. hope you're feeling better!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I didn't read much either. I found that my doctor and my mom could answer any questions and instinct took care of the rest! Francesa's has great options for normal clothes that work as maternity wear.

  32. What an exciting time in your life! Can't wait until you start showing a little more. Many of my friends have said that it becomes more real when they feel the first flicker of movement from the baby.

  33. I'm not sure I'd call the photo here a "full on belly shot". I don't even see a bump! Are you sure you didn't just eat a burrito?!

You look gorgeous as always :) Thanks for letting us share in your 2nd trimester, can't wait to see more xoxo

  34. oh my gosh this is so happy :) and i hope this means we get to see more of you now - i was so excited to just find your blog and all of the sudden you disappear off the face of the earth

  35. Yay!! I love baby posts :) p.s. I will be one of those ladies that wont be shopping at maternity places, just buying L, XL so I can still be stylish! You will be the cutest, cant wait for you to bump it up!

  37. Oh Sarah, #3 always bothered me too! Do it your way! It feels so much better to be true to yourself and your baby :)

  38. #1 and #2 sounds so familiar the amount of times i have cried is ridiculous but luckily i got it back together eventually ;)

and i haven't got that much advice yet probably because the bump isn't big enough, i am sure when people begin to notice they will start telling us how to do everything.

and i hope the second trimester is better--you look amazing if that is any help?

  39. Congratulations!! I've been following your blog for awhile now (we have a similar path - I'm an American ex-pat living in the south of France) and I'm really happy for you and JB!

I'm currently 25 weeks pregnant with my first too and I could not agree more with #6!! Even if you have to do it over Skype, it's still such fun news to share with your loved ones :)

  40. um rockstar for faking at a bachelorette party! a waitress would have known how to handle the situation. i'm sorry you've been sick, but it's encouraging to hear you're OK/alive/happy - the moment we got married, people started asking about babies and i'm like whoa, i need to gear myself up for that because pregnancy kind of freaks me out.i don't like belly pics either but you're so cute and i doubt you'll be posting the super awkward ones anyway. keep em coming :)

  41. You are my hero! I love you and was honored to be your preg-hiding sidekick :) xo

  46. First off congrats to you and your hubby!

Second, Oh O'Douls! Well now that the cat is out of the bag you can do what my girlfriends and I do when one of them is preggers {not me yet}. We order what we call a preggotini. It is a tasty non-alcoholic martini. We usually let the bartender create some delicious!

  47. i hope the second trimester is with less sick days! SO SO happy for you and i cant wait to see the little bump grow :) xoxo jillian:: cornflake dreams

  51. For a while I had huge issues with my stomach and was sick quite often, hopefully this isn't something you are still dealing with but if you are try ginger. Just plain ginger or ginger ale, works so well.
