on turning 28.

i turn 28 tomorrow.  i've been preparing for this day for a while.  this summer I would say,
"JB, do you know December 17th I will be (said very slowly, for dramatic effect)
TWENTY - EIGHT?!"
... weird.
age is a funny thing.
last year i was in panama on a beach.
tomorrow and tonight i'll be celebrating with family.
and you know what?
every age
(aside from maybe some incredibly awkward teenage years)
deserves to be my favorite.  to be celebrated.
i am not one of those people who says to high schoolers or college kids
"enjoy it!  it's all down hill from here..."
because for every year in my life,
i've thought "this is pretty cool.  this is my fave"
of course there are some years that are tough.
some filled with disease, a loneliness, death, lots of growing pains.
but like this little bottle cap tells us.
growing older is a privilege denied to so many.
i feel we have a responsibility to those we have lost to appreciate the here and now.
to be thankful for this day.  we're alive.  and this world is pretty magnificent.
last year i quoted sabrina ward - and i feel like i've been living that outloud for the past two years.
this year I'd like this to be my inspiration for my 28th year (:

  4. Happy early birthday darling! I hope it's absolutely wonderful... btw, you've inspired me when you said that every age deserved to make it on the fave list. It's true! Awesome motto to live by. After all, every year is a marvelous gift from God.

  7. What is it about this weekend? I have a high school/blogger friend, my sister-in-law, AND my dad who all have birthdays this weekend (: Must mean it's time to party.. And I couldn't agree with you more, I think every age and every year has been beautiful in it's own way, and it's important to celebrate and rejoice in each age and year! I hope you have a splendid and lovely birthday (: xoxo

  9. Happy Birthday! I hope your day is beautiful and wonderful. I have a picture of that same bottle cap. I used to not mention my age or say different ages to confuse people. A lot of my friends even got a bit confused about how old I was. I wasn't worried about getting older so much as whenever you mention a number people seem to have preconceived ideas about how you should be at that number. I saw that bottle cap right around a friend's birthday who had recently passed. She was an amazing girl and left this world much too early. She wasn't allowed the privilege of growing older and those words just clicked for me. I no longer lie about my age or evade answering the question. We all think her soul was much to big for this world and God needed her there with him. She's probably having a glass of red wine with him now and maybe even spilling a bit on his robe. I know Heaven is an amazing place but it's probably a whole lot more fun with her up there. :) Thank you for all of your lovely words.

  17. I Love this! I Love this so much!!
I just turned 21, in June, and I've had so much joy and happiness being 21. (who doesn't?) but for the most part people have told me "Live it up because after that everything just sucks.".....Really? Because I would think things would keep getting better and getter. I thought turning 16 was awesome, then I turned 18 and that was my favorite. But then I turned 20 and had a blast...and 21 has been AMAZING. I can't wait to turn 22. yeah, it won't be as cool to not be able to say "I'M 21" but I think I will like it just fine.

Turning of an age is just another year of life that you've lived through and conquered. Whats so bad about that?
Enjoy your last day of 27 Girl, and go ROCK 28 :)

I've always thought that life should get even better with each year.

If we continue to try to develop our dreams and talents, and refuse to become stagnate, then every single birthday should be a wonderful one.

  36. Happy (Early) Birthday! The quote on the bottle cap is great. It's funny, birthdays celebrate the anniversary of your birth, yet too many people groan about how many they've had. How positive you are (about turning twenty-eight and everything else you write) is so refreshing and inspiring!

  54. i've always felt this way about age. I've always wanted to get older and I remember a time being so depressed that I didn't think I would be able to continue living on this planet to even reach 18. And now I'm twenty-two and loving life all because of my Lord and Savior. so blessed by the priviledge that is GROWTH no matter if it is years or spiritually or emotionally. I just love GROWING.

Well, not too much in the waist but that seems to be happening anyways. ha ha
