ADVICE

JB leaves tomorrow for a wedding in Nova Scotia.  I'd give my right arm to be able to attend but plane tickets to canada are not cheap.  So I have  five days to myself.
First, I'll buy a book  - any suggestions?  and also, I'm going to travel solo either to lake como or around switz.  any tips on traveling alone?  i am a little apprehensive.

  1. one of my most favorite books is "the shadow of the wind" by carlos ruiz zafon. it is based in barcelona and simply beautiful!
traveling alone is nooooooo problem, especially not in switzerland. :) take the train, take good music and books, your camera and the then go ahead exploring. why don't you go to milano for a little shopping??
have fun and take care, viele grüsse, kristina

  2. I wandered around Luzern by myself for a day and it was wonderful, took the time to take the boat ride back from pilatus. beautiful! and just went shopping! Another morning I sat down by the river in Zurich, just sipping coffee and people watching. Happiness doesn't get much better than that!

  3. Sorry I can't offer much advice here. But I hope you embrace the solitude for a while! I think flying solo for a little bit is good to get back in touch with yourself. Just don't do anything you feel uncomfortable doing, make sure you are surrounded by people, and don't go anywhere shady during the night hours! But of course you know that. Have fun reading your book and catching up with you :)

  4. A Thousand Splendid Suns. you will get lost in it. I read it on a nine hour flight in one sitting.

  5. I don't have any advice but I think it is great you are traveling alone! How fun to be that close that you can go to Lake Como for the weekend!

  8. Though I'm sure JB is the BEST companion, there's really nothing like traveling alone--you'll talk to strangers, make friends with the coffee house servers, pop into cute shops and generally go where the wind takes you! Enjoy, I can guarantee it'll be one of your favorite trips ever! xoxo
